Dear Jackson Heights Parents,

Hello Cobra family!  I wish you could peek and see what our teachers have been doing behind the scenes the last few days and you could know how much they truly miss your kids.  All of our teachers have worked extremely hard to put together learning opportunities for students.  As parents you will have lots of choice in how involved your children will be in the continuous learning program for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.  The plan will include intervention and enrichment times for our students.  The last two weeks you may have felt pressure to purchase curriculum or suddenly be an expert at math or reading, but you're not in this alone any longer.  Our continuous learning plan will be sent out to parents on Thursday and school is back in session starting March 30.

Please don't worry about your children regressing in school. When we are back in our Jackson Heights classrooms, we will meet them where they are.  I recently read a post from a Hurricane Katrina teacher and this is paraphrased from it, "We worried that missing part of a year would have lasting effects, but it didn't.  Our Katrina kids are doctors, lawyers, teachers, hairdressers, nurses, business owners, engineers, you name it they are doing it all over the world."  And...I am confident our students will too.

At the end of all this, your kids' emotional well being will be more important than their academic skills.  How they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during these 9 weeks is gone.  Sometimes what kids need the most doesn't come from a book or a classroom with four walls.  Look for teachable moments when they pop up and silver lining where you can during this challenging time.

Cobra family, please remember this....The USD 335 staff is your village and we are here to help.  Please don't hesitate to contact me at adrianne.walsh@jhcobras.net or 364-2194 with questions or concerns after you have reviewed the USD 335 Continuous Learning Plan.

Always Proud to be a Cobra,

Adrianne Walsh
