This summer will look different in a variety of ways for many of us.  KSHSAA has created summer activity guidelines for schools which include 10 days of physical activity for volleyball and basketball athletes and 15 days for football athletes.  KSHSAA defines physical activity as warm-up, stretching, conditioning and weightlifting activities.  Although participation by a student in the summer program is voluntary, the conditioning requirements must be met in order for students to be able to participate in summer camps, a summer league program or any summer practices.  KSHSAA’s rationale for this requirement is many students have not had the opportunity to train on a regular basis this spring. A gradual acclimation to physical activity has been shown to lower risk of injury.

According to the current Ad Astera plan, we are limited to a mass gathering size of 15 and asked to continue to practice 6 foot social distancing through June 8.  KSHSAA is also requiring coaches to maintain documentation on attendance, student temperatures and symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath.  Therefore, USD 335 will plan on conditioning outside or in our gyms in the case of inclement weather where students can spread out and maintain proper social distance.  All students are encouraged to bring their own water bottle and towel if desired with names printed on them that will not be shared with others.  Because there is a group size limit still in place, students need to be here at the time they have committed to be here.  Group meeting places will be coming out via Bright Arrow this week to the student athletes who have already committed to being here for conditioning.  If you would like to be added to the list, please call the USD 335 District Office or email the correct coach by May 29.
