An important question on every elementary family's mind is, "What will school be like at JHES this year?"  Here is some important information about the JHES school day and precautions that will be put in place to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible.

Entering

Building

JHES will be screened on a daily basis as they enter the building.  Classroom teachers will screen non-bus rider in the classroom.  Bus riders will enter JHES through outside classroom doors.  There will be a staggered release from the commons area and the gym for students arriving at school between 7:30 and 8:00.  Students will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon entry to the classroom.

Attendance

Families are encouraged to keep students at home if they do not feel well.  There will be a relaxed attendance policy for the 2020-21 school year (i.e. fever 3 days, not 24 hours).  Classroom teachers will prepare materials for students to continue learning during extended absences.

Breakfast

Students will eat a Grab & Go Breakfast in their classroom.

Classroom

Students will be seated as close to 6 ft. apart as possible or have a divider between them.

In 3rd-6th grade, teachers will switch classrooms to teach each class for approximately half the day instead.  The sharing of supplies will be limited to the extent possible and be cleaned after each use.  Students may be assigned a cleaning classroom job as appropriate.

Hand sanitizing or hand washing will occur before and after class transitions.

Recess

PK-2 (playground area by mobile)      3rd-6th grade (playground area between schools)

One grade level will be out at a time with classroom equipment taken out and back in after recess that will be disinfected daily.  Hand sanitizing or hand washing will occur before and after recess.  3rd-6th grade may go from one daily recess in the past to two recesses due to less student movement allowed during the school day.

Lunch

Students will eat a hot lunch in the commons area, classroom or outside in their grade level.  Hand sanitizing or hand washing will occur before and after lunch.

PE/Music

Hand sanitizing or hand washing will occur before and after classes.  Go to class using outside classroom door when feasible.  Two week sessions may be needed due to health restrictions rather than music and PE daily.

Music-Quaver  (3rd-6th grade)  in individual classes vs entire grade

PE-Individual exercising vs. contact games if needed.  Have class outside when feasible.

Tier Time

Technology Time  1st Quarter (to practice in the event of hybrid or remote learning)

5th & 6th Grade Band
