April SOTM

Jackson Heights High School has named Karma Carlson and Evan Ramirez April’s Seniors of the Month.

Karma Carlson has participated in numerous clubs and sports throughout her time in high school, including cheerleading, pep club, pep band, NHS, archery, and scholars bowl. Being inducted into the National Honor Society is what Carlson calls her “biggest achievement in high school.” One of Carlson’s favorite memories of high school was made just this year, when she first met and befriended Greta, a foreign exchange student from Croatia. “Greta became one of my best friends very fast. We met during archery with our other best friend Coralynn,” said Carlson of their first meeting.

After high school, Carlson plans to attend Highland Community College, where she has received a Spirit Squad scholarship.

Evan Ramirez has kept busy throughout high school, with his participation in archery, scholars bowl, track, trap shooting, two school plays, and esports. Ramirez considers one of his biggest high school achievements landing the lead in the school play his junior year. This was also where he formed some of his favorite high school memories. “Performing in “The Bachelor King” was just such a blast, and Korbin (Karns) falling and hitting his head was just so hilarious,” Ramirez said.

After high school, Ramirez plans to find a good paying job and learn what life is like as an adult.

Congratulations on your achievement, Karma and Evan!
