Friday, September 19th at the end of the school day, Mrs. McKinney, Mrs. Maiers and Mr. Keehn did the ALS ice bucket challenge. The seminar that raised the most money from September 8 through 12 got to dump ice cold water on the teachers! Mr. Baldridge’s seminar raised the most money; they raised about half of the $121 that was donated. Students in Mr. Baldridge’s seminar were very determined to be the ones to drench their teacher in the cold water.

“We wanted to raise the most money for a great cause,” says Jenna McAllister. “It was a good choice of activity to help the people in need from illness,” Karley Dieckmann said.

Mrs. McKinney came up with the idea. She had a friend that had ALS. That motivated her to do the ice bucket challenge. Then she had the idea of getting other teachers involved and having a competition between the seminars to see who could collect the most money.   “I thought it would be a good chance to teach the kids about ALS and to raise a lot of money for the cause,” says Mrs. McKinney. Mr. Keehn and Mrs. Maiers chose to do the challenge. “When I heard about the challenge I felt like God was leading me to do it because my friend had ALS. I wanted to do it for my friend,” said Mr. Keehn. “The thought of getting cold water dumped on me was worse than the actual ice bucket challenge,” says Mrs. Maiers. It was a fantastic idea and we had a lot of fun!

USD 335 continues to maintain a mass communications system called BrightArrow to inform parents by phone, text, and/or email of upcoming events. While the initial use of the system will be to notify parents of school closings, the district may also use it to notify parents of other important information. Be sure the office has current phone numbers on file. Parents can update/add the information through their PowerSchool login under the “Demographics Change” tab or update through the school office.
