Promoting Sportsmanship: Understanding KSHSAA Rule 52 and Jackson Heights' Emphasis

Dear Patrons of Jackson Heights,

As we delve into the heart of sports season, it's crucial to not only root for our teams but also embody the essence of good sportsmanship. At Jackson Heights, we pride ourselves not only on victories on the field but also on fostering a culture of respect, integrity, and sportsmanship among our athletes, fans, and community.

We'd like to shed light on KSHSAA Rule 52 – the rule that governs sportsmanship among athletes, coaches, and spectators. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) Rule 52 outlines guidelines and expectations for behavior during sporting events. It emphasizes respect for officials, opposing teams, and all attendees, and it prohibits unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting, or disrespectful behavior toward opponents.

At Jackson Heights, we take this rule to heart and emphasize sportsmanship as a core value through the Cobra Cup initiative. The Cobra Cup represents our commitment to fostering an environment where every player, coach, and fan respects each other regardless of the outcome on the scoreboard. It serves as a reminder that victories are not solely measured by wins but also by the values and sportsmanship displayed throughout the game.

To further enhance the atmosphere of camaraderie and respect, we're thrilled that we reinstated of our Pep Club this year. The Pep Club's primary goal is to promote good sportsmanship, unity, and support for our teams. We urge our patrons to join us in setting the standard for exemplary behavior and being the catalysts for positivity and encouragement during athletic events.

As we cheer on our Cobras, let's remember that our conduct in the stands is as crucial as our performance on the field. Let's be the exemplars of good sportsmanship, encouraging our athletes, and respecting the efforts of our opponents.

Thank you for being an essential part of the Jackson Heights community. Together, let's create an environment where respect, fairness, and sportsmanship prevail.

Go Cobras!

Sincerely,

Derek Smith
