In a celebration of honor, camaraderie, and remembrance, Jackson Heights High School proudly announces its 10th Honor Flight scheduled for June 6th and 7th. This year marks a monumental milestone for our school's Honor Flight program, as we embark on a journey of gratitude and respect alongside our friends from Holton. Together, we're set to create an even more unforgettable experience as we honor our nation's heroes.
The Honor Flight program is a profound tribute to our veterans, allowing them the opportunity to visit their respective war memorials in Washington, D.C. However, these trips are not possible without the generous support of our local community. Independent of school affiliation, the Honor Flight program relies on financial contributions and grassroots efforts to make each journey possible.
To bolster our mission, we're calling on local businesses and individuals to become sponsors of this remarkable endeavor. Through our three-tiered sponsorship system – Red ($250), White ($500), and Blue ($1000) – sponsors receive recognition and appreciation for their support. From having their name displayed on banners and in school publications to being featured on social media and Honor Flight memorabilia, sponsors play a vital role in honoring our veterans.
As we prepare for this significant undertaking, we also extend an invitation to veterans interested in joining us on this transformative journey. We're in need of 46 veterans to accompany us, and we urge anyone interested to reach out to Mr. Derek Smith, Principal of Jackson Heights and Hub Leader, for more information and to obtain an application.
As a veteran himself, Mr. Smith understands the profound impact of the Honor Flight experience firsthand. "The Honor Flight fundamentally changed what being a veteran meant to me," he shared. "These are my brothers and sisters, and I have the honor of providing something meaningful for them and sharing an event with them. I loved every minute that I served my country, and now I love every minute I get to give to my fellow veterans as well."
