BALDWIN, KS – It wasn’t the prettiest day for a shooting tournament, but the Jackson Heights High School Trap Team proved that weather doesn’t slow down dedication. Despite a rainy start to the day in Baldwin, the skies cleared just in time for our shooters to post some of the best numbers of the season at the competitive Quail Forever Pre State Tournament.
With over 20 shooters at the event breaking 90 out of 100 clays, the field was stacked with top-tier talent. Yet, all five of our JHHS representatives rose to the occasion, each shooting over 90/100.
Jace Leads the Charge
Jace had a banner day, tying for 2nd place overall with an incredible score of 98/100. After a shoot-off for the trophy, Jace secured the second-place hardware. His consistency was further highlighted by earning a
50-in-a-row patch
, a difficult milestone in trap shooting.
Patches and Prizes
Consistency was the name of the game for the rest of the squad. Teagan, Evan S., and Gage all earned
25-in-a-row patches
for their strong performances.
Meanwhile, Michael R. stole the show during the side events. He took top honors in the Annie Oakley shoot, walking away with a $50 Visa card for his accuracy.
Team Placement
While official overall team results have not yet been released, early calculations suggest the team finished in
4th place
, narrowly missing out on a team trophy. Given the high level of competition, a 4th place finish is a testament to the hard work these athletes have put in this season.
Looking Ahead to State
"I have not seen the overall team results, but think we finished fourth just out of a team trophy," said Coach Gary. "I hope we are peaking at the right time for State in mid-June."
The team isn't resting on their laurels. They will be back on the range this Thursday afternoon for a practice session that will include some fun shooting. Parents and supporters are welcome to attend.
