The USD 335 Board of Education will discuss the first day of school date during a special meeting on Monday, July 27 at 7:00 PM. After the school start date is confirmed, an announcement will be put on district social media.


The Kansas State Board of Education voted on executive order 58 to delay the start of school until Sept. 9, which is a new procedure for statewide school closure in House Bill 2016. To go into effect, the order needed 6 yes votes. By a 5-5 vote, the executive order wasn't upheld.

Beginning today through the entire month of August, https://www.shift23media.com/ is offering 18 free arts courses on film, arts in resistance, digital media, and music for youth ages 13-22. Registration is easy and can be completed at the website above.

Brooke Slipke, French Horn, was accepted to the Kansas Bandmasters Association Middle Level Honor Band this summer. This project was completely virtual, and we congratulate Brooke on earning this great musical honor.


All 3 Jackson County Schools have created a framework for reopening schools. The document can be found on the USD 335 website by clicking on documents and then scrolling to the Jackson County Schools Re-Opening Framework. The beginning of the plan is being shared to provide a general idea of our direction for the new school year. Please keep in mind there will be some differences between districts, input still needs to be given on this, and more details will be coming soon.

All students that will be involved in athletics at Jackson Heights need to have a KSHAA Concussion Form filled out and signed. Please bring the completed form to your physical on July 15. Go to the website, click on "Documents". The form is listed in the "MS/HS" section.


It is our hope to start school as planned on August 18, and the health and safety of every Cobra is of the upmost importance. We also know flexible learning opportunities will be key for the success of all students this year. Let's talk about the road to readiness in USD 335! A virtual invitation will also be sent via Bright Arrow next week. Free KSHSAA sports physicals will be provided by the Community HealthCare System at JHHS on July 15 8:30am-12:00pm. Physicals are required for students to participate in KSHSAA activities. Students should come with physical forms from the May newsletter signed by a parent.


Congratulations to Jill Buck on earning a state proficiency award in agricultural processing at the 2020 State FFA Convention!


A conditioning session will be offered at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 13 with Mrs. Sides. Per KSHSAA mandate, students need 10 conditioning sessions prior to basketball or volleyball camp or playing on a school summer league team. 15 sessions are required for football players.

The high school graduation date for the Class of 2020 has been confirmed for Sunday, June 21 at 2:00 PM. More details will be coming tomorrow.
